About Me
I am a student at the University of Nottingham and am currently studying Electronic and Communications Engineering. Anime has been a part of my life ever since I moved to Switzerland. Yes, that sounds weird. This is where I first began to watch the almost legendary animes; Dragonball, Digimon and Pokemon, but who didn’t start out watching at least one of those? Detective Conan was the first anime I started watching that is less known. I loved trying to solve the mysteries before he did on the show and occasionally I did. All of the animes I watched during this portion of my life had been dubbed in German.
Currently I am a firm believer in the upholding of purity when it comes to animes. To me, this means that watching an anime in any other language other than the original, most of the time being Japanese, is possibly one of the worst things one can do. I have also found the German dubbing to be acceptable in some cases though, but English dubbing remains evil in my eyes. Not only do the networks in the United States and United Kingdom choose some of the worst voices for the characters, but they also decide to change the names of the characters and objects in the anime. This in my opinion should be punishable by Law. Naruto is a prime example of a show that should never under any circumstances be watched in any other language than Japanese.
One Piece and Detective Conan, Case Closed for you Americans, are two prime examples of why animes should never be allowed to be altered. In the case of One Piece, all the blood in the series was simply removed as well as the cigarettes, cigars, some weapons and a numbers of signs and symbols were changed. As for Detective Conan, well lets just say that the name of the series was not the only name that was changed. Almost all the character names were changed to be ‘more western’. Secondly It was decided that the show would only be aired at 2am, or so was the case when I was last in the US. All in all a disgrace.
Well that’s enough about me.
